What this proves is that DeSantis is a corporatist shill who will protect his donors over promoting innovation and free-market competition.

Defunctus could have made laws that required a % of typical retail cashiers. He did nothing to protect jobs. At one Walmart there were 5 cashiers on duty. Those 5 were fired and 25 self serve stations replaced them. I never saw a lower price for doing the self scanning for Walmart. Just inconvenience. All he actually did was make harsher laws to put people in jail. This is what they want, take away your jobs and put more people in jail. Now, ask yourself who's interest is he working for, corporations or his voters? And before you comment. Yes, the new system attracts more shoplifting. Even from law abiding citizens and people making mistakes while scanning. Yes, it's their fault but, like the cops say if you walk down the street with your purse loose you attract crime and it's your fault. And that they are not there to protect you but to protect order. The scanners are a bad design overall. they need to fix the design to make it theft proof. Such as a long conveyor belt where the machine self scans the products. With a new cart at the end to fill with accurate machine scanned products. Leaving no way to steal. Now that would be best for everyone. Minus the inconvenience. Or another way would be to utilize robotic arms to do the scanning work similar to a cashier. Fix the dumb technology and not just throw people in jail. that shows low mentality governing.
